Mekong Delta is the lower part of the legendary Mekong River. From the Tibetan plateau, the Mekong runs through China, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia before coming to the South of Vietnam. Its name in our land is “Nine Dragon River” because it’s divided into thousands of intermingled branches and rivers, and creates nine river mouths before drifting out to the Sea like the nine happy dragons of mythology. This package will introduce you to one of the world’s most brilliant cultures with friendly and hospitable people, amazing scenery, tasty food, and thousands of smiles.
Start with your bikes; you will witness colorful scenes along the riverside while pedaling past charming delta homes and villages with coconuts at the core of their economy. We will cross narrow canals on a local sampan (traditional boat) before boarding a ferry for a refreshing boat trip across the wide Cổ-Chiên River.
Lunch will be served at a local restaurant, followed by cycling through the most famous water-coconut trails and ending with a ferry crossing from the main arm of the Mekong River to Trà-Vinh town where you will spend the night.
Day 2: Trà Vinh – Cần Thơ: ~60km. (Breakfast & Lunch)
This second day will start at 7 a.m. and you will visit an area mostly populated by Khmer people, one of Vietnam’s 54 ethnic groups. A short ride over to Bà-Ôm Pond to see its famous lotus flowers and this place will offer you a glimpse of Khmer architecture, especially the ethnic group’s temples which are sites to see while in the region.
Cycle as much as you wish for the rest of the day through the peaceful countryside paths. You will have lunch in the Cầu-Kè district and then will have a short transfer to escape the busy road to Cần-Thơ city. You will stay overnight here. Don’t miss out on its well-known night markets!
Day 3: Cần Thơ – Cái Răng Floating Market – Sài Gòn: ~30km. (Breakfast & Lunch)
This last day will begin at 7 a.m. and be marked by a boat trip to the famous Cái-Răng floating market to see the locals busy with their trading and deliveries.
From here you will then cycle to Phong Điền and if time permits, you will do a quick stop at a local artisan’s shop and learn how this family has been earning a living for more than 30 years by making rice noodles the traditional way.
You will then go through smooth trails along canals to Phong Điền market and finish your bike ride before a long transfer back to Sài Gòn (180 km, around 4 hours). Lunch will be taken on the way and you will be back in the late afternoon.
HAVE A GREAT TRIP!
